Urban Planning & Design

At no point in history has the life of cities been as complex as it is now. Rural to urban and international migration of people, and technological innovations continue to form trends that no single discipline of study can synthesize. There is no other area of our work at Canbean which calls on the full strength of our team to integrate skills in order to come up with solutions for human settlements into the future, as does Urban Planning & Design.

While the impact of ICTs are changing patterns of commute and how people work in cities, the associated mental stress on citizens from physical isolation due to technology use, increased levels of debt and reduced disposal income, will create significant social issues to be addressed. One of the most alarming factors is that it is highly likely mental illness, in especially big cities, will be normalized. The potential new normal is an increasing fear; a cognitive disconnection from reality and insensitivity to caring for each other.

As planners, we are challenged to come up with policies, strategies and physical and social solutions to address these emerging psychological patterns of city life. Our team of professionals at Canbean is forward thinking and well placed to address this. We have done projects with governments and urban communities to tackle issues related to housing, security, institutional strengthening, provision of opportunities for leisure and youth development. On each such project the impact of social media is carefully considered in the emerging ways people work and live in the cities. Our work and expertise also extend to transportation planning, streets-cape analysis and design, waterfront development and community service delivery.
