Social & Community Development Planning

In this area of our work, our focus is more on small, outlaying and rural communities. Here, life is at a pace far different from the challenges of urban living and requires a different set of considerations. Due to the small scale of these projects, we are often able to work more closely with the people directly benefiting from human development interventions. Projects include interventions in the areas of health care, primary education, recreation, technological diffusion, small scale renewable energy, subsistence agriculture and environmental stewardship initiatives. At the scale of these projects we work closely with local governments and communities; hold community meetings and take into consideration social, political, environmental and historical factors to frame projects for implementation. Like many projects in our portfolio, these are often donor funded. However, a significant element of the interventions in this category of our work include community contribution. Part of these projects involve communities co-financing projects and/or providing material and/ or labor to ensure successful implementation.
